Seoul, Day 1: Itaewon

Mar-17:

Finally here for my Seoul trip! Took a six hour flight from Kuala Lumpur which surprisingly felt short despite having no entertainment, forgot to bring my iPad…

Arrived around 3 pm and took the train to Itaewon, I was very impressed by their transportation system as they were very efficient and convenient even to one who totally doesn’t read and speak Korean. One thing to take note though is that every ticket bought (if not using transportation cards) will include a KRW 500 deposit, it will be returned when you reach your destination but you have to look for the machines yourself. And one thing I found is that the airport train ticket vending machine will accept KRW 50,000 (if you want to break change) while those at the city doesn’t. Spotted Lee Kwang-soo on the train! Kinda..

Arrived at Itaewon station after about 1 ½ hour with no difficulties or dramas. I picked Itaewon as my home in Seoul because this is where you can get Halal authentic Korean food and also many other Halal options. And everything is 20 minutes train ride away from here so it was a pretty convenient site. Here we are at Itaewon!

After a quick meet and greet with the Airbnb host and some briefing on house rules, Wifi, house address, etc, I set out again to explore the neighborhood and found a little Turkish kebab place for dinner.

One of the most interesting places to hangout while travelling are the convenience stores as they give you an idea what brands or food the locals prefer. It was here that I found the famous banana milk, they also come in melon and strawberry flavor.

Went home, turned on the TV for some K-drama without subtitles while enjoying the banana milk (can’t get more local than this LOL). It was really yummy without being too sweet with just a little hint of banana flavor.

My first day in Seoul ended at a 1ºC temperature, it was freezing outside but luckily there’s a heater at home. Good night!
