Zoos are my favorite places to go, because when I was little we didn’t really have the chance to go and Zoo Negara has always been one of my “must visit places when I grow up” destinations.
I know a lot of people think that zoos are cruel because it keeps animals locked up but I see it as a way to save animals and teach the younger generations about animals up close. They are also well taken care of and sometimes could be the best chance to survive than in the wild.
Address: Jalan Ulu Kelang, Kemensah Heights, 68000 Ampang, Selangor, Malaysia
Getting there: went with my family so took a taxi.
Admission: RM 50 includes panda enclosure, it was lesser if you didn’t want to see the pandas. But they are the current main attraction there.
Getting around: the zoo is pretty huge and our hot tropical climate might make it a challenge if you wear the wrong type of footwear.
Food: as expected, food is a bit pricey. The best way is to have your own water bottle and some snacks. The possibilities are endless when it comes to food in Kuala Lumpur so it is better to eat outside the zoo.
Animals: there are many types of animals, the highlight being the pandas that we loaned from China. They live in an air conditioned building and we went on a weekday, there wasn’t many visitors that time, so lucky for us. I enjoyed it a lot because when I went to Hong Kong, the pandas there were all asleep. The ones here were eating and can be viewed up close.
Exhibits: The enclosures were okay for me except for the wild boar’s which were pretty muddy but I guess that’s how they would live in the wild no?
Rating: 3/5, would visit again in 2 years time to see if it has any improvement. Hoping that it does.
